Émigré
The JDC Archives is proud to partner with the New York Philharmonic to present artifacts and photographs to contextualize the February-March 2024 premiere of “Émigré,” a semi-staged oratorio that tells a sweeping tale of love and loss in Shanghai. Utilizing images and objects from the collections of the JDC Archives, the exhibition offers an intimate look at life in Shanghai for Jewish refugees during World War II. Highlighting another piece of JDC history of interest to New York Philharmonic concertgoers, the exhibition also includes documents and photographs related to performances for survivors in the Displaced Persons (DP) camps in Germany led by Leonard Bernstein.
