Early Post-Communist Jewish Renewal in the FSU

With the fall of Communism, JDC initiated programs to reconnect Jews in the Former Soviet Union with Judaism. JDC sponsored a wide variety of cultural and religious programming for Jews of all ages in synagogues and in community centers, including holiday celebrations, the revival of the cantorial arts, Shabbat and Bar/Bat Mitzvah programming, and more. JDC also supplied religious articles such as tefillin, tallitot, shofars and mezuzahs and created attractive Jewish books and learning materials.
