Poland: Postwar Period

In the immediate postwar period, JDC allocated nearly $7 million for Poland in 1946 alone. These funds provided for cash assistance and relief supplies and financed hospitals, medical care, soup kitchens, orphanages, children’s homes, and homes for the elderly; supported schools, religious and cultural institutions, vocational training programs and hachsharot (agricultural training for Palestine); set up loan kassas and credit cooperatives; and organized a tracing service to unite survivors and their families.
