The Franciscans

The missionaries who founded the San Antonio missions were from the Franciscan Order. Franciscans were followers of Saint Francis of Assisi, who taught that the teachings of Jesus on love, mercy, justice, and forgiveness were to be lived daily. They owned nothing. Their maxim was not to live for themselves only, but to serve others as Jesus served.
