They began by building a new home out of the only material available to them, logs. The size of a log cabin is dictated by the height of the local trees, and Dallas County’s trees were not tall enough to create big rooms for extensive families. The window in this one was a great luxury—imagine how hard it was to transport glass hundreds of miles in a wagon without breaking.
