Good Government and Promoting Prosperity

In the 1920s Dallas County continued to become more urban, with good transportation, new jobs, and people leaving rural farms to try city life. Communities that had incorporated right before World War I grew rapidly, including Carrolton, Highland Park and Irving. Richardson, DeSoto and University Park joined them. The city of Dallas grew from 23 square miles in 1920 to 45 in 1930-mostly by aggressively annexing nearby suburbs.
